Gen. Martin T. McMahon, seated in fringed chair, and staff of six. McMahon (1838-1906) was a lawyer who volunteered for service during the Civil War. In 1862 he was adjutant general and chief of staff, 6th Corps, Army of the Potomac. He received the congressional medal of honor for destroying an abandoned train to prevent its capture at the battle of White Oak Swamp, VA. April-October 1865
