Ferryboat altered to gunboat. Pamunkey River, VA. 1864-5 Emergency gunboat from the New York Ferry Service. The Commodore Perry was on old Navy Your ferry boat purchased and hastily pressed into service by the Federal Navy to help solve the problem of patrolling the three thouseand miles of coast along which the blockade must be made effective. The ferryboat in the picture has been provided with guns and her pilot-houses armored.
