Green self-supporting tanks resembling large water rafts are being used by the British 8th Army Water Tank Company for reservoirs from which the people of Florence secure their water. The retreating Germans destroyed the water mains and the British had to transport the water in tanks to all sections of the city. The water was chlorinated to prevent typhoid fever. 1944 |
