Burial Mask from King Tut's Tomb

Tut's Burial Mask

Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamon's tomb in 1922. He began the search for the tomb in 1917. He had only one year left of funding from Lord Carnarvon, his sponsor. The tomb was discovered on November 4th, and was opened on November 26th. The tomb was the first royal tomb which was found unlooted. The tomb was hidden under a pile of rubble quarried for other tombs in the area. It took ten years for Carter to catalog and study all the contents of the tomb which eventually were transferred to the Cairo Museum. Detailed notes and photos are now held at the Griffith Institute in Oxford, England.

Tut's Second Mummy Case

The entire royal coffin weighed over 2,900 pounds.
