The Mitsubishi was the most used plane in the Japanese Air Force. The Zero had good success early on against allied planes in air to air combat. Later in the war, it became apparent that the Zero had lost some of it’s edge to the American planes. The Mitsubishi company built over 400 Kamikaze versions of the plane. In all, nearly 11,000 of these types of planes were built. The Mitsubishi company produced over 3,000 of them while the Nakajima company manufactured over 6,000. Small amounts came two other companies.
