The Fight began with the Attack of this Position  ·  The fight began with the attack of this position. The garrison consisted of three companies of foot-guards, a company of coldstream, the battalion of nassauverians of major Burgen and the Company of Lunebourg, together 1500 men. the English soldiers were commanded by the Lieutenants Colonels James Macdonnell and Francis Home. The English effected real prodigies of coldbloodness and courage at Goument. Attacked by numerous troops commanded by the Prince Jerome Bonaparte and burdened by the cannon balls, the position resisted all assaults of the French soldiers.
