The colors most often used were red and black with some yellow, maroon, and violet. The paint was typically made out of materials ground into animal fats. After studying the Cave drawings, scholars believe that about 70% were created by hunter-gathers, 13% by herders, and 17% by those in an organized economy (Marceau, 1997). Of these caves, the majority were not discovered until the 20th century.
